Why can’t we get a newborn child?

As per the law, in the case of surrendered children, the birth parents have a reclaim period of 60 days during which they can come back for their child. The child is declared legally free for adoption only if no one comes to claim the child within that stipulated timeframe. Thus, no baby can be placed with an adoptive family before the completion of 60 days.

In the case of abandoned children, the Child Welfare Committee declares a child legally free for adoption only after all attempts to trace the parents have failed.
